On some legacy projects I use a CMS called MODX. That was before I finally switched to Processwire a few years ago. There are several add-ons for MODX—or extras, like MODX-people call them—one of which is used for providing basic newsletter management functionality (sign up process, confirmation emails etc.)

Today I was made aware of an issue where the confirmation email on one of our clients’ websites wouldn’t get sent out if anyone signed up for their newsletter. I assumed that this would be an easy fix but I was proven wrong. I won’t go into detail but it took me nearly the whole afternoon to figure it out.

I’m not the worst person when it comes to managing my time but sometimes things like this can mess up your plans quite extensively. On the other hand, there have been a number of times where I thought I would have to deal with an issue for a whole day and then I fixed it in half an hour. I guess things always balance out somehow. That’s what I learnt today.
